GROWTH Programme Stage 9 – Creative Project
As we are now in the summer term, our 30 week GROWTH programme is coming to an end for 2023!
It has been a busy year for CHEXS, meeting new students, volunteering at new sites in the community such as Gunpowder Park and supporting our local schools.
In this summer term, our primary and secondary schools have joined up once again for the Stage 9 – Creative Project within primary schools.
These projects are designed for secondary school students to act as positive role models and improve upon their confidence by communicating with younger students. This term we have made sculptures out of willow, helped to repaint fences and supported gardening. These projects have been fantastic, and we have received some brilliant feedback from both the primary and secondary pupils including:
“My secondary buddy was very helpful, I am thankful for her because she did not give up.”
Another highlight of our term has been the Secondary Stage 6 – activity days for the secondary school students that we have supported on Community Habitat management projects.
These activity days have been held at Lambourne End (thank you Ian for being a fabulous instructor!) These activity days are held as a reward for the boys’ hard work in the previous terms where they worked very to manage a community area and shrub clearance.
During the activity days, we have taken part in teambuilding activities and a low ropes course, solidifying all the skills that they have learnt out with CHEXS.
The boys have loved the experience and have gained a lot out of the days, by working together, problem solving and communicating effectively.
A quote from one of students about his experience this year with CHEXS:
“I like coming out with CHEXS because I have improved on working as a team and realising that working together is better than trying to do everything on my own.”
As well as activity days, the CHEXS children and young peopl team have been continuing with our after-school clubs and will continue to do so throughout the summer term.
These after-school leadership sessions have been great and offer children who may not usually get the chance to attend after school clubs a chance to take part in fun after school sessions for 4 weeks!
Overall, this term has been brilliant, with lots of positive feedback about how much the children have been gaining from being part of CHEXS.
We have seen some amazing changes in the children we support, particularly in their confidence and self-esteem and we hope that they all continue to shine!
We would like to thank the Shanley Foundation for supporting us with CHEXS After-School Project 2022-23
