The Importance of Volunteering: Give Back and Make a Difference with CHEXS

Volunteering is more than just an act of kindness—it’s a powerful way to give back to your community, support local charities, and make a lasting impact on the lives of others. At CHEXS, our volunteers are the heart and soul of the support we provide to vulnerable families, and we are thrilled to invite you to join us on our journey of giving back.

Volunteering with CHEXS – An Event to Get Involved

We are hosting a volunteering event on the 15th of May at 6 pm via Zoom, and we would love to see you there! This is your chance to learn about the various volunteering opportunities at CHEXS and discover how you can play a role in supporting our community. Whether you enjoy outdoor activities, creative crafts, or community events, there’s a place for you at CHEXS.

What We Do at CHEXS

CHEXS is dedicated to supporting families, children, and young people through a range of initiatives. Our work primarily takes place in the borough of Broxbourne, with occasional projects in other areas of Hertfordshire. We rely on volunteers to help us deliver our programs, and with over 3,500 volunteer hours donated last year, it’s clear that volunteers are essential to our mission.

Volunteering Opportunities at CHEXS

Here are some of the roles where you can get involved and make a difference:

Youth Project Volunteer

If you enjoy working outdoors and with young people, this role is for you. You’ll work with our youth team on the GROWTH program, supporting young people at Lee Valley Park and other community areas. It’s a diverse and challenging role that involves physical outdoor activities like sawing and lopping, as well as guiding and mentoring young people.

Creative Sessions Volunteer

Are you a creative soul who enjoys engaging with children and their families? Twice a year, CHEXS runs free craft sessions in our partner schools. As a Creative Sessions Volunteer, you’ll lead and support these activities, fostering a fun and engaging environment for all participants.

Community Event Volunteer

If you love meeting people and working in a fast-paced environment, consider joining our community event team. We host two major events each year, in spring and summer, and we need volunteers to help with setup, takedown, running stalls, meeting and greeting attendees, and more. This role is perfect for those who thrive in a team setting and are eager to get involved.

Why Volunteering Is Good for You

Volunteering not only benefits those you serve but also provides personal rewards. Our volunteers often tell us how much they gain from the experience, including a sense of pride, new friendships, and valuable skills. At CHEXS, we offer full training and supervision, helping you set personal development goals and gain confidence in your abilities.

Beyond the formal training, volunteering with CHEXS offers additional benefits such as:

  • Working with a passionate team
  • Gaining experience in the voluntary/social care sector
  • Increasing your confidence
  • Developing new skills for future employment
  • Feeling a sense of achievement
  • Meeting a diverse range of people
  • Finding fulfilment in helping others
