GROWTH Programme update – Winter 2024

What Our Children and Young People Support Team Has Been Working on, on the Growth Programme This Half Term – Winter 2024

The Children and Young People (CYP) team has had a productive start to the academic year on . We began by delivering Aspiration Talks to all the new students we are supporting, providing them with valuable insights into their educational journey. In addition, we welcomed parents to meet the team and discuss the details of the Growth Programme, fostering a strong partnership between home and school.

Our Transition Programme has been particularly successful for students who started secondary school in September. This year, we’ve seen quicker and smoother transitions, with students settling in more swiftly than in previous years.

Our Role Model students have actively engaged with our primary schools, supporting younger children on their creative projects. These projects included the creation of water feature areas, willow hearts and butterflies, and arches for outdoor learning spaces, along with gardening and planting activities.

We also had the privilege of taking a number of our students to attend the Remembrance Parade at Cedars Park, where they participated in paying their respects and reflecting on the significance of the occasion.

Additionally, we had a very exciting opportunity with Hitchin TV, who came out to our community habitat to showcase how our volunteers help support CHEXS and the positive impact the programme has on our young people. This coverage highlighted the invaluable work being done and the lasting effect it has on the individuals involved.

Our After School and Holiday Clubs have been well attended. The children have developed new skills through our Brick by Brick Lego programme, and participated in team-building and leadership games. These structured activities not only enhance skills, but also help build confidence, self-esteem, and trust, while giving children a sense of purpose and achievement.
