Supporting Families Every Step of the Way
As another busy half term comes to a close, we are incredibly proud of the difference the CHEXS Family Support Team continues to make for local families across Broxbourne. By working closely with schools, parents, carers, and partner organisations, we provide family support, parenting support, mentoring for children and young people, and early intervention services that help families overcome challenges and build confidence. Our aim is to ensure every family receives the right support at the right time. Here are some of the highlights from the past few weeks and how we continue to support our local community.
One-to-One Family Support and Strong School Partnerships
Supporting families across Broxbourne is at the heart of everything we do. Throughout the half term, the CHEXS Family Support Team has continued to provide personalised one-to-one parenting support to parents and carers. We have helped families navigate everyday challenges by offering practical advice, reassurance, and encouragement. Every family’s circumstances are different, so we tailor our family support services to meet individual needs and build long-term confidence.
We have also continued working closely with our partner primary and secondary schools. Regular meetings with school staff help us identify concerns early and provide early intervention support when it is needed most. By sharing knowledge and working together, we can ensure families receive the right support at the right time. These strong partnerships help improve outcomes for children, young people, and families across the Broxbourne community.
Supporting Young People and Celebrating Our Community
Laurence has continued spending time in local secondary schools, meeting with students for mentoring sessions and regular wellbeing check-ins. These conversations provide young people with a trusted adult they can talk to openly. This helped them build confidence, develop resilience, and access support before challenges become overwhelming. It is encouraging to see the positive impact these sessions continue to have on students across our schools.
We were also delighted to attend the recent CHEXS Coffee Morning at Millbrook School. A huge thank you goes to the wonderful parents who came along and supported the event. Together, an incredible £61.90 was raised for CHEXS. Every donation helps us continue providing vital support to local families and enables us to reach those who need us most.
Helping Children Through Important Transitions
Transition periods can be exciting but also bring uncertainty for both children and parents. During the half term, our Family Support Team worked alongside our Children and Young People Team to support a variety of school transition events. From welcoming new Reception children and their families at school picnics to helping Year 6 pupils prepare for the move to secondary school, we were pleased to be part of these important milestones.
Providing reassurance, answering questions, and helping families feel prepared can make a significant difference during periods of change. We are proud to work alongside schools to help children start their next chapter feeling confident, supported, and ready to succeed.
Looking Ahead to September and Summer Support
As the school term comes to an end, some of our regular groups are taking a well-earned summer break. Our final Real Talk session was held at Tesco, and we are looking forward to welcoming families to our new venue at Waltham Cross Library when sessions return in September. Our new Real Talk/Real Walk sessions will run every Tuesday from 9:30am, providing parents with a welcoming space to connect, share experiences, and access support.
Our SEND Support Group also held its final session before the summer holidays, with helpful discussions around emotional regulation. Families were able to take home emotion bear cards to continue supporting conversations and emotional wellbeing over the summer.
Although schools may be closed, our support doesn’t stop. The CHEXS Family Support Team remains available throughout the summer holidays. If you or someone you know would benefit from advice, guidance, or support, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Together, we can continue helping families thrive.
