AGE 6-11YRS CHEXS GROWTH PROGRAMME

Not every child learns best inside a classroom. At CHEXS, we believe in giving children space to grow through hands-on activities, real-world challenges, and personal coaching. Our GROWTH Programme supports children aged 6–11 who may be struggling with confidence, peer relationships, anxiety or emotional regulation, CHEXS helps children build the skills and self-belief they need to thrive in school, at home and in life.

This is a 30-week journey built around opportunity, encouragement, and discovery, delivered by a team of experienced, approachable professionals who  work with your child within their school setting.

HOW IT WORKS

The GROWTH Programme runs throughout the school year and is made up of 10 structured stages, each one designed to support personal development in a practical and creative way.

Children take part in group projects, outdoor sessions, creative tasks and 1:1 coaching, all tailored to their age and needs. Most sessions happen on school grounds, with some taking place in local parks or community areas.

Children are supported to:

  • Set goals and work towards them at their own pace
  • Try new things in a safe, encouraging environment
  • Build positive relationships with peers and adults
  • Reflect on their progress and feel proud of what they achieve

WHAT YOUR CHILD MIGHT DO

Every child’s journey through the GROWTH Programme is different, but each stage is carefully designed to help children feel confident, capable and connected. Below are some of the key projects they may take part in during their time with CHEXS:

🟢 Aspiration & Parent Presentation

We start the programme with a session designed to help children explore their personal goals and understand the exciting opportunities ahead. This stage also includes a parent introduction, where families are invited into school to hear about the GROWTH Programme, meet the CHEXS team, and celebrate their child’s first step forward. It sets a strong foundation for shared understanding and progress at home and school.

🟣 Creative Projects

Children take part in hands-on creative tasks that improve their school environment and give them a real sense of pride and ownership. These might include painting fences, building planters, or creating large-scale natural sculptures like willow deer or butterflies. These projects offer an ideal space for children to express themselves, work as a team, and see the tangible results of their efforts, boosting confidence and practical skills along the way.

🔵 Coaching Sessions

Delivered one-to-one or in small groups, these sessions help children develop emotional awareness, talk about their feelings, and set positive goals. Our team uses a gentle coaching approach that focuses on strengths, not labels. Children are encouraged to reflect, share, and grow in a safe and relaxed setting. Internet safety and protective behaviours are also introduced to support emotional resilience.

🟡 Community Habitat Management

In these projects, children take part in local environmental work — such as planting trees, clearing paths, or creating bug hotels, often in partnership with local councils and park rangers. The sessions help build a connection with nature and a sense of responsibility for the community. Being outdoors also gives children valuable time to pause, reflect, and regulate in a calm and open space.

🟠 Family Craft Session Support

Older children in the GROWTH Programme are invited to help run our popular family craft events, which take place after school during the winter and Spring terms. These sessions are creative, welcoming and well-attended, and by helping with set-up, guiding activities, and tidying up, children build confidence, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility. For many, it’s the first time they’ve led something in front of adults and peers, and it makes a real impact.

🔴 Intergenerational Projects

In partnership with HILS and Age UK, this project brings together young people and older residents from local retirement communities. Children and older adults take part in shared activities, such as arts, gardening, or conversation games, helping to reduce isolation while building empathy, listening skills and mutual respect. These gentle sessions are often among the most joyful and rewarding in the programme, leaving a lasting impression on everyone involved.

WHAT CHILDREN GAIN

Children often leave the GROWTH Programme with:

  • Greater confidence and self-esteem
  • Improved friendships and teamwork skills
  • A better ability to express their feelings and ask for help
  • A stronger sense of responsibility and pride in their actions
  • More focus and engagement in school

We focus on what children can do, not what they can’t.

Our goal is to give them the opportunity to feel successful, supported and seen.
