Karen Morley-Hayes – CHEXS Children and young people support worker
My Name is Karen Morley-Hayes and my time with CHEXS started 8 years ago now when I myself attended a parenting course at CHEXS.
The Family Support Team gave me so much helpful advice that I wanted to give this wonderful charity something back, so I volunteered my time one day a week for two years on the GROWTH Programme carried out in schools.
Having seen first hand how this amazing charity helps the whole family I wanted to help continue their work. For the past 6 years I’ve worked on the Children and Young Peoples team.
I’m passionate about helping young people be the best that they can possibly be, helping them to break down barriers in order to help them achieve.
I enjoy encouraging young people to face their fears, taking them outside of their comfort zones in a safe environment.
The Children and Young People’s team are good listeners too, we help young people to understand and manage their thoughts and feelings.
My favourite project has to be when we make willow deers within schools with the Young People, each deer is different and unique, just like all the Young People we meet. I do love a good chat and this is just one of the projects that gives the Young People the opportunity to have space to talk about anything they want to, gaining peer support and understanding.
Over the years I have achieved becoming the Broxbourne Youth Worker of the Year in 2019, a MIND peer supporter as well as a CEOP Ambassador.
