INDEPENDENT REVIEW

Why We Commissioned This Review

In 2021, CHEXS partnered with Dr Roger Green, Visiting Research Fellow at Goldsmiths, University of London, to conduct an independent review of our ‘whole family’ approach.

Our goal was to formally document how and why our method works, drawing from the voices of those who matter most: young people, parents, schools, and community partners.

This review was about reflection and development. We wanted to better understand our strengths, uncover areas for growth, and demonstrate the value of our approach to local authorities, funders, and the wider community.

KEY FINDINGS

This review brought together the voices of young people, parents, school staff, trustees, and community partners to explore what makes the CHEXS approach effective.

Their insights highlighted the deep impact of our ‘whole family’ model, from boosting confidence and emotional wellbeing to improving school engagement and family relationships.

Below is a snapshot of what each group shared about working with CHEXS.

THE CHEXS WHOLE FAMILY APPROACH

At CHEXS, our ‘whole family’ approach means working with children, parents, and carers together to create lasting change.

We offer early intervention and prevention support, combining one-to-one and group sessions that build confidence, emotional wellbeing, and stronger relationships.

Our work includes hands-on activities like gardening, crafts, and teamwork that provide real-life learning experiences.

Alongside this, we deliver mentoring, coaching, and parenting workshops to support emotional resilience.

Through trusted partnerships with schools and inclusive community projects, including cross-generational initiatives, we help families feel supported, connected, and better equipped for the future.
